Sinead Leahy
Sinead Leahy received her PhD in Microbiology/Biochemistry from the National University of Ireland, Cork, Ireland, in 2005. Her thesis work, conducted with both Dr. Douwe van Sinderan and Prof. Des Higgins, involved the sequencing and analysis of bifidobacteria.
After a post-doctoral position at the Alimentary Pharmabiotic Centre, Cork, studying the genomics of probiotic bacteria, Sinead pursued joint postdoctoral work with the Microbial Genomics team at AgResearch, Palmerston North and the Microbial Ecology and Genomics Lab, School of Biological Sciences, University of Auckland, New Zealand.
In 2008 she took up the appointment of Research Scientist, Microbial Genomics, AgResearch.
Sinead's interests are in sequencing, assembly and analysis of microbial genomes relevant to mammalian gut environments and waste-water treatment systems.
