PhD & MSc Students
The microbial genomics team are committed to providing MSc and PhD students with training in microbial genomics to allow for future opportunities for employment in this rapidly expanding area of research. We can provide skills training in the following areas:
- cultivation of difficult-to-culture anaerobes
- FISH probing
- ssrRNA gene and genomic DNA library construction
- screening
- phylogenetic analyses
- gene characterisation
- biochemical assays of enzyme function
- genome sizing via PFGE
- genome sequencing using high throughput techniques
- microbial bioinformatics techniques
- comparative genomics techniques
- functional genomics techniques (transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics)
